What is personal alchemy when it comes to psychology, self-development, and therapy?
“I did everything right, the good college, the perfect career, the perfect husband, kids, the nice house in the right zip code…”
But life throws you a curve ball. Now what?
“Who am I? What do I do now? What did I do wrong? Why am I not happy? What’s wrong with me?”
Going Deeper – Depth Psychology
You’ve even tried therapy before. You have coping skills and are able to manage daily life. Everything looks great on the surface, but there has to be something more. You yearn for something deeper.
Maybe it’s a repetitive dream. Could it boredom or dissatisfaction? Underneath the surface, deep within you, something is calling for your attention. It’s time for a change. This is where personal alchemy comes in.
Carl Jung and Individuation
Jung called this process individuation. He stated,
“Life really does begin at forty. Up until then, you are just doing research.”
Uranus Opposition
Astrologically there is a similar occurrence called the Uranus Opposition which takes place around the age of 42 and can last a couple of years. This is when Uranus in the heavens is half way through its trek around the sun. Therefore it is 180 degrees away from where Uranus was the moment you were born. 180 degrees is an opposition in astrology. An opposition denotes activated tension for that planet. This relates to the time of the mid-life crisis.
Mid-life Crisis
Crisis means a time where a difficult decision needs to be made or a turning point. This is why so many people reflect on their past and make huge life changes at this age. The astrological question is “what do I want the rest of my life to be about.” Jung would say that at this time, we start to reflect, and turn inward. With this reflection, the individual starts to ponder how to find meaning in their life.
Living a Meaningful Life
